Materials / Hardware

TreeHouse Workshop, Inc. (THW) insists on using unique and beautiful materials of the highest quality. Our treehouses utilize reclaimed or salvaged wood/materials whenever possible. We feel this lends a special quality and feeling that the treehouse is part of the tree, like it's been there forever. We also know that it is our responsibility to conserve our natural resources and to always be thinking how we can creatively breathe life into material that would otherwise be looked over. We take the time to carefully select each piece of salvaged wood/material to fit perfectly into its new application within each uniquely designed tree house. Our stewardship over natural resources brings the personal touch that sets each of our treehouses apart.

In developing our craft, we have spent many years consulting with and working alongside arborists and engineers. We have had the pleasure to work with treehouse pioneers Michael Garnier and Charles Greenwood PE, who have developed a number of methods of attaching treehouses to a tree (or trees) that minimize damage and assure a long life for the tree and your treehouse. Specially designed bolts, or "attached limb systems" have been a significant part of these developments and have become, in almost all cases, the starting point of our treehouse structures. The GL (Garnier Limb) and the HL (Heavy Limb) are designed to hold quite serious loads and have been extensively tested. They have now been in use for 6+ years. Along with Michael, Charley, and our friends in the treehouse world, we continue to test the limits of treehouse design and construction, and to devise new ways to bring treehouses into the forefront of design, architecture, and building.
